1. What exactly is a scrapbook anyway?
A scrapbook is similar to a photo album in that they hold photos. However, a scrapbook tells the story of the photos. Photos, memorabilia, and other keepsake treasures are placed in a scrapbook using creative techniques which enhance the photo's content and ultimately tell the story of the memories or event. A scrapbook is a nice way to display your photos and capture your memories. While a photo album is one option, a scrapbook captures the focal points of the photos and highlights your favorite memories. Journaling in your own handwriting will allow you to remember the events of the photo over and over again for many years to come. Acid is a substance found in paper that causes it to weaken and crumble. The acidity is measured by pH level on a scale from 0 - 14; 0 being the most acidic. Paper with an acidity of 7 is considered acid free however papers with an 8 are preferable for scrapbooks. Lignin is a naturally occurring substance found in the cells of plants. Over time, lignin causes paper to turn brown and extremely bitter. Both acid and lignin are in photo albums unless noted otherwise and can weaken your photos and turn them brown, ruining them. Lignin free simply means that the lignin was removed during processing. Not all acid free papers are lignin free, it is important for any scrapbook specialist to recognize the difference and be committed to using both acid and lignin free papers. 4. How do I decide what type or size of album to do? The most popular size album is the 12x12 album. This album is ideal for telling a story with your pictures and allows for enough room to hold many pictures on a two page spread or enough room to embellish properly or even to include special memorabilia or other keepsakes. A 12x12 album is perfect for a baby album, wedding, school, heritage or any bigger size project. Another size album that is also nice is the 6x6, I call it the Keepsake Album. At a much smaller size, it's more of a brag book and perfect to capture grandchildren for a grandparent's birthday or anniversary, give as a gift, tribute and honor someone, pet, vacation, just to name a few. 5. How long will it take? As much as we all want to know how long things take, the turn around time really depends on how many pictures you'd like in the album, how organized they are, the size of the album, and how intricate you'd like the designs. The best way to estimate the timing would be at the initial consultation. 6. Will my photos be cut and/or cropped? For the most part yes, they will be unless you indicate otherwise. The purpose of cutting or cropping is simply to get rid of the unwanted/undesired elements in a photo which cause the viewer to focus on the less important things in a photo rather than the object/person you'd like highlighted. 7. Will I get my original photos returned to me? You will get the original photos back, but they will be in the scrapbook. It is always my suggestion to have duplicate copies or a back up CD of your photos to ensure you will always have at least one copy of your photos. 8. What if I don't want my photos glued? Scrapbook glue is always photo safe and any scrapbook specialist should ensure that any adhesive used is photo safe. However, if you feel strongly about gluing photos, there are other ways to adhere photos to a page with photo corners or other embellishments. 9. What if the pages rip or the pictures fade years after completion? Keepsake Pages stands by every custom scrapbook completed by us. We only use quality scrapbook supplies that are photo safe and free of acid or lignin. That said, we guarantee your pictures to not to fade. Ripping of pages, matting or other paper within the scrapbook can occur over time simply out of wear and tear of viewing the book. If something like that occurs, please let us know and we will be happy to fix it for you at a special discounted repair price. 10. Can I ship my album to another location/address? Absolutely! In fact, Keepsake Pages offers gift wrapping service as well. 11. Will I have to organize the photos myself? Not at all! As an additional service, we offer photo organization as well. However, keep in mind, that the process goes a tad faster if the photos are in somewhat of an organized fashion. 12. How much does the consultation cost? Absolutely nothing! In fact, we will come to you. 13. I have so many photos that I know will be more than one album. Do you offer any discounts? We understand that getting started might be a little overwhelming as you look at those boxes of boxes of photographs. We absolutely offer discounts to get you started. While the initial scrapbook wouldn't qualify for a discount, each subsequent album would. Keepsake Pages is proud to offer a 10% discount for repeat customers up to 3 albums completed and a 25% discount on the 4 th album and each subsequent album thereafter. |
